The Thor MPEG-2/H.264 HD Encoder is a versatile broadcasting audio and video encoding device, designed for professional use. It features multiple video input interfaces, including SDI, CVBS, YPbPr, and HDMI, along with four audio input interfaces such as AES, RCA, and XLR. This encoder supports four stereo (eight mono) audio channels embedded to mix with video, forming a stream output. The encoded program is output as a transport stream (TS) through both ASI and IP ports simultaneously.

This real-time encoder handles both MPEG-2 (4:2:2) and H.264 (4:2:0) streams, suitable for ASI or IP outputs. The Thor part number H-MPEG2-H264-E2 is a multiformat, multi-input encoder tailored for the broadcast industry, offering advanced features. It supports EIA 608 and 708 closed captioning, ensuring compliance with FCC regulations. With DVB-ASI input and output, internal ASI program multiplexing allows encoded content to be integrated into any standard multi-program ASI transport stream. Additionally, externally encoded content from the ASI input can be multiplexed with IP network video output, facilitating the creation of MPTS program streams for media servers.

A notable feature is the second Gigabit Ethernet TSoIP output, enhancing functionality in IPTV systems. This output is available via a standard RJ-45 port, providing a total of three network interfaces. The third network port grants access to the Thor web server management system, isolating management for increased reliability and simplifying multicast protocol use. Audio input options include digital AES or analog audio via included DB9 breakout cables, as well as embedded SDI or HDMI audio. Audio encoding is available in both AAC and MPEG1 formats for MPEG-2 and H.264 video outputs. The unit also supports AC3 2.0 and 5.1 audio passthrough embedded into SDI.
