Introducing the Thor 4 HD-SDI Broadcast Encoder, model H-4HD-EMS-AC3, a versatile 4-channel HD-SDI MPEG2/H.264 encoder designed for seamless integration with US TV standards. This encoder supports MPEG2, MPEG4, closed captioning, and Dolby AC3 audio encoding, delivering up to 1080p resolution at 60 frames per second.

The Thor H-4HD-EMS is engineered to work alongside the popular QAM-IP series of encoder modulators. It accepts up to four channels of uncompressed HD-SDI digital video through four BNC connectors. Each channel can be independently configured for bitrate, codecs, and video quality via any modern web browser. The encoder supports MPEG-2 codec and Dolby AC3 audio, ensuring compatibility with virtually all TVs in the United States.

All four program streams are multiplexed into an ASI MPTS output on mirrored BNC terminals, which can be directly connected to a QAM-IP digital TV channel modulator. This setup allows for the addition of programs to QAM-IP output channels as “virtual” or “sub” channels, such as 2.1, 2.2, etc. Each digital channel can support up to 20 programs, depending on resolution and bitrate.

In addition to ASI output, the encoder provides program streams as UDP or RTP network video transport streams. These outputs comply with IGMP Multicast UDP MPEG-TS standards, making them easy to integrate into almost any IPTV system. The streams are universally accepted and can be viewed in applications like VLC.

Network management is facilitated through a dedicated NMS Ethernet port, and all settings can be adjusted via the front panel LCD and keypad. LEDs are included for alarm monitoring and input video detection, ensuring smooth operation.
